Robert Kidney Awarded 2012 Cleveland Art Prize
June 30 2012 @ Cleveland Museum of Art. Introduced by Cindy Barber. Lifetime Achievement Awards Robert Kidney is a self-taught musician who began performing as a folk singer and songwriter at 17. Later this year, he will release his first solo album, "Jackleg." A native of Akron, he frequented The Berth in Akron, La Cave in Cleveland, and Walter's Cave in Kent for inspiration. While stationed in Chicago during his Navy service, he became interested in the Blues. He met Bob Koester at the Jazz Record Mart, and joined him on excursions to the Windy City's legendary downtown blues clubs. When he returned to Akron, he launched his own band, 15 60 75, better known as The Numbers Band. Their first album, "Jimmy Bell's Still In Town," was released in 1974. They released their most recent album, "The Inward City," in 2010. On September 27, 2000, The Numbers Band performed at the Royal Festival Hall in London. Robert also performed with his brother Jack as The Kidney Brothers, and they toured with David Thomas and the Two Pale Boys in the United Kingdom twice. He also toured with The Golden Palominos in 1987 and appeared on several of their records. - http://clevelandartsprize.org
